Kate’s wedding dress seems too ordinary? .

Miss Catherine Middleton’s Wedding Dress has been designed by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen.

We have posted a blog on our page that Sarah Burton had denied making dress for Kate and we doubted the authenticity of the news. That was a huge lie! Whatever, let’s unveil the final mystery. What do you think of this wedding gown? Does it seem too simple?

The Wedding Dress

Miss Catherine Middleton’s Wedding Dress has been designed by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen.

Miss Middleton chose British brand Alexander McQueen for the beauty of its craftsmanship and its respect for traditional workmanship and the technical construction of clothing. Miss Middleton wished for her dress to combine tradition and modernity with the artistic vision that characterises Alexander McQueen’s work. Miss Middleton worked closely with Sarah Burton in formulating the design of her dress.

The dress epitomises timeless British craftsmanship by drawing together talented and skilled workmanship from across the United Kingdom. The dress design pays tribute to the Arts and Crafts tradition, which advocated truth to materials and traditional craftsmanship using simple forms and often Romantic styles of decoration. Ms Burton’s design draws on this heritage, additionally giving the cut and the intricate embellishment a distinctive, contemporary and feminine character.

The design

The lace appliqué for the bodice and skirt was hand-made by the Royal School of Needlework, based at Hampton Court Palace. The lace design was hand-engineered (appliquéd) using the Carrickmacross lace-making technique, which originated in Ireland in the 1820s. Individual flowers have been hand-cut from lace and hand-engineered onto ivory silk tulle to create a unique and organic design, which incorporates the rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock.

Hand-cut English lace and French Chantilly lace has been used throughout the bodice and skirt, and has been used for the underskirt trim. With laces coming from different sources, much care was taken to ensure that each flower was the same colour. The whole process was overseen and put together by hand by Ms Burton and her team.

The dress is made with ivory and white satin gazar. The skirt echoes an opening flower, with white satin gazar arches and pleats. The train measures two metres 70 centimetres. The ivory satin bodice, which is narrowed at the waist and padded at the hips, draws on the Victorian tradition of corsetry and is a hallmark of Alexander McQueen’s designs. The back is finished with 58 gazar and organza covered buttons fastened by Rouleau loops. The underskirt is made of silk tulle trimmed with Cluny lace.

The Fabrics

French Chantilly lace was combined with English Cluny lace to be hand-worked in the Irish Carrickmacross needlework tradition.

All other fabrics used in the creation of the dress were sourced from and supplied by British companies. The choice of fabrics followed extensive research by Sarah Burton and her team.

The Royal School of Needlework

The Royal School of Needlework (RSN), based at Hampton Court Palace, assisted the Alexander McQueen team in accurately cutting out the delicate motifs from the lace fabrics and positioning the lace motifs with precision into the new design. The lace motifs were pinned, ‘framed up’ and applied with stab stitching every two to three millimetres around each lace motif. The workers washed their hands every thirty minutes to keep the lace and threads pristine, and the needles were renewed every three hours, to keep them sharp and clean.

The RSN workers included existing staff, former staff, tutors, graduates and students, with the youngest aged 19.

The RSN’s work was used primarily for the train and skirt of the Bride’s wedding  dress, the bodice and sleeves, the Bride’s shoes and the Bride’s veil.

The white gown with a flowing lace train allowed her beauty to make yet another dramatic entrance.

I appreciate so much about  her glamorous gown and marcel waves which bring us back to the 30s of American.

A Ferragamo clutch and Cartier jewels with sapphire stones completed her breath-taking look.  She looks like a porcelain doll! The gown is fit for royalty and she looks like a queen.

Salmon Pink Organza Gown

I can’t believe that in the space of 2 hours she’s a totally different woman.

She looked sensational wearing an Atelier Versace Spring 2011 salmon pink organza gown with a sweetheart neckline.

I’m sure many of you have been waiting to see this splendid gown on the red carpet.

I love the lightly ruffled hemline of three layers and the Swarovski Crystal encrusted belt.

The one shoulder gown sees her sporting a less dramatic style, which many of you don’t appreciate as much as I do.

No jewels, no do up, just a bright red asymmetrical gown and a gorgeous smile doing all the talking. Simple is always the best. Just The Romans Times style.

I appreciate this styling much more than the white Elie Saab!!

Her Oscar de la Renta Spring 2011 lime gown with an origami folded square neck and full gathered skirt is glamorous, but it’s a more subtle understated type of glamour compared to her previous looks.

The Description of Catherine Middleton’s Wedding Dress

Ivory satin and lace, with a pearl button detail and a three-metre train.

It’s latest description of Catherine Middleton’s wedding dress, which reports say is being created by a little-known British label, but one British newspaper claims the princess-to-be has designed the frock herself.

Sophie Cranston, of Libelula, is said to have been chosen by Catherine for the all-important creation, according to The Huffington Post in the US.

But the Daily Mail reported on Monday that Catherine had actually designed the dress herself.

“According to one impeccably-placed source, Kate has taken inspiration from her History of Art degree – particularly the Renaissance period, as she studied in Florence during her gap year,” The Mail reported.

“She has also included what is described as a nod to the iconic Emanuel wedding dress worn by Lady Diana Spencer, but has avoided including any of its flounce.”

The Mail had been told the gown was ivory satin and lace, with a pearl button detail and a 10-foot (three-metre) train.

“One friend in the know said: ‘All we have been told is that the dressmaker is fairly unknown and from a relatively small design house. But make no mistake, whoever’s name emerges on the day, this is very much Catherine’s dress’,” the Mail reported.

Catherine wore a tailored black velvet Libelula coat at a friend’s wedding in January, sparking speculation that Cranston might be in the running.

Cranston, who won the prestigious Designer of the Year Award at Graduate Fashion Week in 1999, started on Saville Row and at Bellville Sassoon.

She worked for Alexander McQueen before setting set up Temperley in 2000 with Alice Temperley.

She started Libelula – which means “dragonfly” in Spanish – after moving to Andalucia in southern Spain to learn flamenco and Spanish.

Cranston returned to the UK and set up her headquarters and now has a studio in Greenwich, south east London.

According to its website, the label prides itselfon creating “beautifully cut, timeless and flattering shapes”.

It also offers bespoke wedding dresses, creating “vintage-inspired couture gowns”.

There has been no comment yet from Libelula itself and St James’s Palace has steadfastly refused to be drawn on any matters concerning the wedding dress.

Others designers reported to be in the running include Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, Daniella Issa Helayel, Bruce Oldfield, Jasper Conran and Alice Temperley.

Model wedding gowns at the fashion show tips, ideas for Crossroads brides to be

Models wait in line for their turn to model wedding gowns at the fashion show presented at the bridal show organized by The Pilot Club. The gowns are from Jade and Madalynn Quinceanera Boutique in Victoria.

Crystal Lopez weaved her way around the Victoria Community Center, soaking in the things around her – silver centerpieces, colorful flowers, decorated cakes and more.

The Placedo bride-to-be was among the hundreds of people who attended the Pilot Club of Victoria’s 21st annual Bridal Showcase.

The event, one of the club’s two main fundraisers, brings professionals such as florists, caterers and photographers together under one roof for area brides, said Susan Riedesel, an event co-chair.

“We’re where you want to come if you want to get married in the local area,” she said.

Proceeds benefit Project Lifesaver, Relay For Life, various scholarships and other causes.

Lopez will marry her fiance, Gary Behrens, May 14 and said she attended the event to get a better grasp on decorations.

“Everything is so pretty and I want to do it all,” she said with a laugh. “But this has given me some good ideas.”

This year’s show included a record 85 vendors, Riedesel said, and another 15 or so remained on a waiting list.

Cindy Reed owns Isn’t That Gorgeous!, which creates flower bouquets and arrangements for special events. She hosted a booth to give brides an idea of what she does.

It helps to have the product there in person, she said.

“Girls want to come here, touch and feel a product before they buy it,” Reed explained. “You can’t do that on a website.”

Christina Cook owns The Gathering Company, a business that provides items such as linens, tables and centerpieces. Her display amassed several booth spaces and included things like crystal chandeliers and full place settings.

Her decorating theory for the showcase is “go big or go home,” she said, explaining the company typically draws business from the event.

For Susan Crump, the showcase is the one chance a year she advertises her business, Photography By Susan.

“It’s worth it to come to the show,” she said, standing before her display of bridal and engagement shots. “It makes a statement about who we are and what we do.”

The latest wedding photography trends include outdoor shots, Crump said.

“People want to go to different locations,” she explained. “They’re more interested in the background than they were years ago.”

For Lopez, her big day is fast approaching. She said she looks forward to it, but did offer advice for future brides.

“Start planning,” she said. “From the moment you get engaged, start planning.”

Wedding Dress Best Fits Your Figure On Your Wedding

Looking for your wedding gown can be an overwhelming experience, especially if you’re new to the whole process. Making a decision will be much easier after you become familiar with the four silhouettes of wedding dresses and which silhouette will look the most flattering on your figure. Wearing the right silhouette for your body type can draw attention to your best features and can also minimize those features you’re wanting to minimize.

BALL GOWN: The ball gown has a form-fitting bodice with a full skirt. It is the “Cinderella” look. Ball gowns are considered to be what brides would call a traditional look of all bridal dress silhouettes.

Basque waist ball gown features a fitted bodice with an elongated V-shape beneath and at the front and center of the waistline. This style minimizes the width of the dress at the waist.

Natural waist ball gown has it’s waistline at the “natural waist – usually about half way between the ribcage and the at the narrowest part.

Asymmetrical waist ball gown features a a waistline that goes more at a diagonal at the waist from one side of the dress to the other side.

Dropped waist ball gown starts a few inches below the belly button. This style elongates the look of the torso and is very popular right now, with many choices of length of the drop of the waist itself.

SHEATH CUT: The sheath cut follows the conture of the body. Since the dress is so form fitting it will have a slit in the front, side or back to make easier to walk.

Trumpet style cuts are sheaths that are flared at the bottom so they don’t need a slit to walk.

A-LINE: A-Line or Princess cut gowns have an A-shape that is created by vertical seams running from the shoulders to a flared skirt. They are characterized by their narrow-at-the-top, then wider at the bottom shape. This style is designed to elongate the lines of the body, with the illusion of length. This style has no specifically designed waistline.. The silhouette can look good with many different designs elements – belts, bands and sashes, etc.

EMPIRE WAIST: The empire waist dress has a seam that starts just under the bustline that falls into a sheath. The skirt actually begins just above the natural waistline. This cut is especially flattering to brides who have tummy issues or may be expecting.

Here are some general suggestions to consider when trying on these silhouettes based on your {silhouette / shape|body type]. Since body silhouettes and sizes can vary a large amount tremendously these are only generalized recommendations. You may still want to try on various silhouettes to decide what fits you best and which style you feel the prettiest in. There is no-one-size-fits-all, so talk with your bridal consultant about what style and fit is best for you.

HOUR GLASS FIGURE – small waist with larger hips and a full bust. Best choice is the Princess cut with a scoop-neck or v-neck. Avoid an Empire waist which will hide your figure and look disproportional.

SHORT WAISTED AND PETITE – Again the Princess cut is best because it elongates the short waist and lengthens the appearance of the torso. Avoid a Sheath cut which will make you look shorter and “stubbier”your short waist more obvious.

LONG WAIST – Best would be a Basque waist ball gown which will give you the appearance of a shorter waistline. Avoid a Princess cut because it will make your waist look even longer than it is.

BOXY – undefined waistline – you tend to look more straight from your shoulders to your hips. An Empire waist gown will help to de-emphasize your waistline and make you look thinner. A diagonal ruched bodice will also help draw the eye across the body to combat the natural vertical body lines. Avoid a Princess cut or a Sheath which both draw too much attention to your middle.

PEAR SHAPPED – small bustline, average waist, larger hips. Choose a gown that emphasizes the top and puts less emphasis on the bottom. Actually, the style of the dress is less important than the neckline. Choosing a gown with an off-the-shoulder neckline or cap sleeves will flatter your shoulders and chest while drawing focus away from your hips. Avoid a Sheath style because it will be more unflattering, but remember the neckline is most important so avoid a V-neck which draws the eyes and focus down.

FULL FIGURE – A ball gown is full and will hide many figure problems. Choosing a style with a ruched or wrapped waist will also look better.

The four silhouettes (ball gown, empire, princess cut and sheath) all create varying visual effects on different body types. If you haven’t tried wedding dresses on before, ask your consultant to help. It’s your wedding and you are the one to make the final decision on which of the styles / silhouettes looks best on you.

Have an enjoyable experience deciding your bridal dress. Our staff is trained to help make sure you do just that.

Elegant Women’s Evening Dresses

Elegant vintage women’s evening dresses have style that is timeless. These vintage women’s nighttime dresses are very fashionable today as well. The loss of the corset was a great impetuous for fashion to take a radical change and ideas started flowing. The natural curves of a woman’s body was once again the target of the couture industry, the feminine shape has become exaggerated in the models that are so thin that they are emaciated. There is an in between, the couture that realistically takes in the normal or maybe a little larger woman in their designs of women’s fashion dresses. The fashion industry has produced some of the most spectacular women’s night time dresses you could ever imagine. Let’s take a small journey through time and investigate the women’s nighttime dresses of the past that have made it back to the future.

A stylish little house dress for housework made its appearance on the fashion scene. These house dresses were also used to wear as you were getting ready to go out for the night in your beautiful evening dress that came from one of the top women’s fashion dresses providers. These little dresses were also called day dresses, for the night dresses were women’s night time dresses.

Women’s nighttime dresses had become designed for comfort and between the day dresses, women’s fashion dresses, and the business lines that were coming out for the working woman with tailored style, the variety of clothing that became available such as women’s evening dresses, blouses, vests, skirts and a creation called palazzo pants, women’s choices became fun and interesting and more feminine than ever in the women’s fashion dresses.

In the 1930′s fashion started to concentrate on shoulders and a sleeve in their designs for women’s nighttime dresses. The different types of shoulders that the designers were able to come up women’s night time dresses in with ranged from puffy to flat pleats that created a softer width. The creation of the butterfly sleeve added an ethereal touch to women’s evening dresses and the fabric choices went from laces to fine netting that could sport some jewels and colors that would complement the women’s night dresses.

A puffy sleeve that tapered down to a tighter fitting forearm on the women’s evening dresses was called the leg of mutton sleeve. This style became very popular and is once again popular. The origin of this sleeve design actually comes from the women’s evening dresses created back in Renaissance period, revisited in the 1930′s and is used today in women’s evening dresses fashion designs.

2010 trends for autumn & winter evening dresses

With summer having been and gone, and the colder nights well and truly upon us, it can be tempting to wrap up and go for functionality rather than fashion when heading out for the night. However, that certainly doesn’t have to be the case. Whilst it might be advisable to wear a long jacket and scarf combination when heading out in a winter night, nobody ever said what you’re wearing under it needs to be any less stylish than ever.

Evening dresses are, perhaps, even better suited to nights out later on in the year than they are in the summer. After all, nothing looks better on a cold winter’s night than some of the classy shades of colour and materials used in them, and the inability to expose too much skin in the colder weather also makes them a bit more practical than a summer dress!

Formal occasions are also a regular fixture throughout the latter half of the year, and evening dresses are sure to impress at any social gathering, be it a gathering at Christmas, a New Year’s celebration, a wedding or even a work’s night out if it’s in the right location. It’s worth remembering that an evening dress works better in a more formal situation rather than a relaxed one.

This year, there is a distinct trend towards darker colours in evening dresses, with blacks and dark greys featuring prominently in many autumn and winter collections. Similarly, dark purples and strong reds also feature heavily in many collections, but lighter colours remain popular too, with turquoise and whites also featuring. In particular, black dresses with flashes of white or cream are a strong look this season, and can really help to bring out the most in your figure.

Material wise, velvet is very popular at the moment, and adds a luxurious touch. Velvet always looks remarkably elegant, and can convince people that you spent a fortune of a dress – even if that wasn’t necessarily the case. That said, silk evening dresses are an ever popular choice, and always look particularly classy, even when they’re relatively inexpensive.

Ruffles are also going to be popular, and whether you want to go for a dress that has plenty, or opt for one with a more subtle approach (such as one with a ruffled detail on one shoulder) they should always go down well, whatever the occasion.

There are plenty of different styles of evening dresses and a range of collections to choose from, but whatever one you choose to go for, you’re sure to look fantastic.
